MP Launches Hindi-Medium BTech Civil Engineering at SGSITS
SGSITS Indore has started a Hindi-medium BTech Civil Engineering course with 30 seats and financial support of up to ₹2 lakh for eligible final-year students.

Madhya Pradesh has introduced a Hindi-medium BTech programme in Civil Engineering at Shri G S Institute of Technology and Science (SGSITS), Indore. The programme has started from the 2026-27 academic session and is aimed at helping students who studied in Hindi-medium schools pursue engineering without facing a major language barrier.

According to the institute and reports based on information from officials, 30 seats have been made available for the dedicated Hindi-medium Civil Engineering batch. Around 20 students had already taken admission when the programme was reported.

Why SGSITS Started Civil Engineering in Hindi

Many students who study in Hindi up to Class 12 can find it difficult to understand technical subjects when they enter an English-medium engineering programme. SGSITS said this language gap can affect students' understanding and, in some cases, may contribute to students leaving their courses.

The new programme allows students to study Civil Engineering and write examinations in Hindi. The initiative is also in line with the broader objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP), which promotes greater access to education in Indian languages.

Up to ₹2 Lakh Financial Incentive

Students continuing their Hindi-medium Civil Engineering studies until the final year are eligible for financial assistance of up to ₹2 lakh, according to SGSITS's public announcement. The assistance is subject to the applicable eligibility conditions and rules.

The financial support is intended to encourage students to continue their engineering education and complete the programme.

Four Years of Preparation

The Hindi-medium programme was not introduced without preparation. SGSITS faculty members said experts had spent about four years translating technical study material from English into Hindi.

The institute also organised workshops to train teachers to teach engineering subjects in Hindi. This preparation was intended to make technical concepts easier for students to understand in their mother tongue.

English Will Still Be Taught

The Hindi-medium programme does not mean students will completely stop learning English. Faculty members said students will also receive essential English-language skills so that they can communicate effectively and remain competitive in higher education and employment.

The aim is to help students understand difficult engineering concepts in Hindi while also giving them the English skills needed for their professional careers.

A New Option for Hindi-Medium Students

The SGSITS initiative gives Hindi-medium students another option for pursuing professional engineering education. With dedicated seats, translated study material, trained faculty and financial assistance for eligible students, the programme is designed to reduce the language barrier in technical education.

The initiative could also become an important example of how engineering education can be offered in Indian languages while continuing to prepare students for modern workplaces.
