LIVE: China Addresses Iran-US Tensions in Foreign Ministry Briefing
BEIJING, November 3, 2026: China's Foreign Ministry has reiterated its emphasis on diplomacy and regional stability amid continuing tensions involving Iran and the United States. The latest press briefing comes as Beijing steps up diplomatic engagement in the Middle East and calls for dialogue to prevent further escalation.
During the November 2 regular press conference, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning discussed China's diplomatic priorities and announced upcoming visits by Chinese special envoys to several countries in the Middle East and Africa.
According to the ministry, China's Special Envoy on the Middle East Issue, Zhai Jun, is scheduled to visit Iran, Oman and Saudi Arabia in early and mid-November. The visits are intended to promote peace talks, ease regional tensions and support efforts towards greater stability.
The diplomatic outreach comes amid renewed concerns over the security situation in the Gulf region and the relationship between Washington and Tehran. China has consistently advocated resolving international disputes through political dialogue and negotiations rather than military confrontation.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has also held discussions with Iranian and Saudi officials, highlighting Beijing's efforts to encourage communication among regional stakeholders. China has expressed support for Iran's sovereignty and security while emphasising the need to prevent further conflict.
The briefing also addressed China's broader international relations, regional cooperation and multilateral diplomacy. Beijing's approach reflects its interest in maintaining regional stability, protecting international trade routes and safeguarding energy security.
As tensions involving Iran and the United States remain a major international concern, China's diplomatic initiatives are expected to remain an important part of its foreign policy engagement in the region.
