LIVE: PM Modi Launches Pune Metro Projects Worth ₹21,800 Crore

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates the 23-km Pink Line and launches the foundation work for four new metro corridors to expand Pune's connectivity.

PUNE, November 3, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Pune Metro Line 3 and laid the foundation stone for Phase-II expansion projects worth approximately ₹21,800 crore through video conferencing on Tuesday. The initiative marks a major development in Pune's urban transportation infrastructure.

The Prime Minister inaugurated the 23-kilometre Pune Metro Line 3, popularly known as the Pink Line, constructed at a cost of more than ₹8,300 crore. The corridor connects Maan with the District Court Metro station, providing direct metro connectivity between the Hinjewadi IT hub and Shivajinagar.

The new line is expected to improve daily commuting for thousands of IT professionals, students and residents while reducing dependence on private vehicles. An important feature of the corridor is that it will be operated entirely by women train operators. Around 30 per cent of its electricity requirements are also planned to be met through solar power.

During the programme, Modi also laid the foundation stone for Pune Metro Phase-II, involving an estimated investment of ₹13,500 crore. The expansion includes four corridors—Lines 2A, 2B, 4 and 4A—which will significantly extend the city's metro network.

The proposed corridors will connect important residential, commercial and employment centres, including Vanaz, Chandani Chowk, Ramwadi, Vitthalwadi, Kharadi, Khadakwasla and Manik Baug. The projects will also provide interchange facilities with the existing metro network and intercity bus services.

The expansion is expected to improve urban mobility, reduce road congestion and support Pune's growing economic and industrial activities. With enhanced connectivity and sustainable transportation features, the projects aim to make public transport more accessible and efficient for residents.

The development represents another step towards modernising Pune's transport infrastructure and strengthening its position as a major urban and technology hub.
